Newsletter – May 2025

The Launch | May 2025

Hopefully the spring thermals have started at your local flying spot and great weather is in the forecast!

Here at the HPAC office, the testing phase has begun on our new member management system (MMS). This system means an easier renewal process for you –  waiver and credit card payment all on one site.

The MMS is almost live – please watch your emails for the activation link to set up a new password so you can log in to your member portal.

Our website is also getting an overhaul – we have found a company to switch out the not-so-user-friendly interface to a new WordPress plug-in so we can finally get to updating the site ourselves and making it the resource that all members can turn to.

Our online AGM ran from April 30-May 7th. We had almost the same number of respondents as last year, and a couple of emails to the office for each side of the accounting question – one in support and one against spending money on an external accountant.

Here are the results:

James Rogers (HPAC Treasurer), will explain the external accountant role in our next newsletter along with expected fees.

The Board has been busy working on a number of projects, both through their individual portfolios and assisting with regional issues. We have been strengthening our ties with Transport Canada, assisting pilots with requests to access our General Fund and discussing and voting on important matters brought up by the many members who reach out to HPAC.

Sandra Ducasse came back onto the Board at our ADM to replace Pat Jackson as the Director for Quebec. Since it was midway through his term, the Board had the option to leave the seat vacant until the next election (Fall 2025) or to fill the seat temporarily. Sandra agreed to come back on for the remainder of the term as she had been on the Board previously – welcome back Sandra!

Festival of Flight

The Festival of Flight in PEI over the Labour Day weekend is a go! If you’ve ever wanted to fly in Atlantic Canada, this is a great opportunity to do so. Book the time off now for the August 29-September 1 weekend and take the family or a group of friends! It’s a beautiful place to visit if the weather doesn’t cooperate but they’ve been pretty lucky in the past at this time of year. More details to come, or you can visit the HPAAC Facebook page to watch for updates.
