Responsibilities and Code of Conduct

Instructors and their services are a treasured resource for HPAC/ACVL and the sport in Canada. It is you who bring new pilots into the sport by providing a full program of instruction and/or by conducting instructional tandem flights. You are the ambassadors for our sport not only vis-à-vis the pilot community but also the general public.

Safety: Pilots look to you to set an example for the highest safety standards in our sport. Please familiarize yourself again with the Safety Section. It is mandatory for instructors and tandem pilots to report ALL accidents, whether personally experienced or observed.

Tandem Pilots: It is mandatory that tandem pilots utilize the Critical Pre-Launch Checklist (CPC) prior to launching with tandem students, or a reasonable facsimile thereof. These checklist cards are provided to all HPAC-certified tandem instructors for use on launch and are readily attachable to gear. Please contact the Office for additional Critical Pre-Launch Checklist cards. See also the SOP 431 Tandem Pre-Flight Safety Protocol .

Code of Conduct: Please familiarize yourself with SOP 460 Instructor Code of Conduct . This code governs all instructional activities by HPAC-certified instructors and tandem instructors. Observance of the code is a requirement for maintaining certification.

Currency: It is the responsibility of the instructor to keep his/her certifications current, including the First Aid certification.

Extensions to certifications of a maximum of 6 months beyond the 3-year certification period can on occasion be granted, with extenuating circumstances, through application to the HPAC Executive Director.

Current Instructor List: If your name is not on the list of current HPAC/ACVL certified Instructors, please make sure that your membership is current, your certification is current and also your First Aid is up to date. If you still are not listed, please contact the Office.
