Newsletter – July 2025

The Launch | July 2025

Phase One of our new member management system has launched! Most of you will have received an email from HPAC with a unique link to set up a new user name and password. If not, please check your spam folder or contact the office (your name may be in the next import).

We will continue to use our current member log in area until the new one is ready to go live and  want to make sure our members are all set up and ready to go at that time.

Migrating all of our info to this new database is a huge undertaking, so it will be rolled out over the next month or so. With almost 8000 ratings issued since HPAC began, it’s no small task!

What will you – the members – see that’s new?

  1. An IPPI logo right on your rating card. Get a new rating – your IPPI rating changes too!
  2. No leaving the site to pay or sign your waiver.
  3. Speed flying ratings! We will be able to issue cards soon so pilots can present their ratings at required sites. The speed flying program will be published once we can issue the cards on our new website platform (which is happening at the same time as our new MMS rollout so it’s as busy as 20 gliders in the same thermal over here at the HPAC office!).

Speaking of our new platform, we are looking for photo submissions from flying sites across the country. We want to see it all – hang gliding, paragliding, and speedflying; foot launch and towing; coastal, flatland and mountain sites. Please send photo submissions to Martina at the HPAC office along with the name of the pilot and wing (if known) as well as the site and location.

Hope you are all having a safe and adventurous summer!

Festival of Flight

The Festival of Flight in PEI over the Labour Day weekend is a go! If you’ve ever wanted to fly in Atlantic Canada, this is a great opportunity to do so. Book the time off now for the August 29-September 1 weekend and take the family or a group of friends! It’s a beautiful place to visit if the weather doesn’t cooperate but they’ve been pretty lucky in the past at this time of year. More details to come, or you can visit the HPAAC Facebook page to watch for updates.

Ozone Chelan Open 2024

A gaggle of Canadian pilots traveled to Washington State for the Ozone Chelan Open – check it all out here! Congrats to all the competitors.

We’ve had requests to bring back the red log books. While many pilots use an online tracker or even just XContest, there is still interest from pilots who like to keep a hand written log of their flights. Books will be available soon through the office – keep an eye on the Facebook page and our website for details.

Whichever method you prefer, remember it is your responsibility to keep a log of your flights. When it comes time to apply for a new rating (including instructing and tandems) you will be asked to show how many flights you have completed or students you have taught or taken tandem.

Please continue to send in your reports! Any accident or incident reporting – current or in the past – helps us all learn and fly more safely.
