WHAT IS THE HANG GLIDING AND PARAGLIDING ASSOCIATION OF CANADA (HPAC)?

WHY DOES HPAC EXIST?
- To self-govern and promote free flight (hang gliding, paragliding, speedflying) in Canada.
WHAT DOES HPAC DO?
- Represents the interests of members to regulatory bodies, including Transport Canada, NavCanada, Parks Canada, all levels of provincial and local governments managing public land, resorts, corporations and private landowners.
- Establishes National Standards for pilot ratings and instructor/tandem certification and maintains a national pilot certification database.
- Promotes Safety through accident and incident investigation, an Accident/Incident Reporting System, and advisories to members.
- Conducts a National Awards Program to recognize exceptional achievement and contribution to the sport.
- Negotiates an annual third-party liability insurance policy to protect the interests of members, landowners, and those volunteering on behalf of the organization
- Sanctions Canadian National and other local competitions to ensure safety and fairness for participants.
- Facilitates the participation of Canadian pilots in national and international competition through direct financial support and membership in Aero Club of Canada and FAI (Fédération Aéronautique Internationale).
- Conducts a National Awards Program to recognize exceptional achievement and contribution to the sport.
- Communicates frequently with members, by publishing a Newsletter “The Launch/Le Déco”, annual safety and instructor communiques, and maintaining a web site available to both members and the public, in both official languages.
