IMPORTANT AIRSPACE REVIEWS UNDERWAY AND PENDING

Kamloops, BC area: Transport Canada and NavCanada are currently making some procedural changes to air traffic approach patterns. HPAC/ACVL was consulted and a response submitted by two member pilots knowledgeable about airspace issues in that region: Norm Krcmar and Jerry Mason. Many thanks to both of them.

Vancouver Airspace Review (Late Fall 2019): HPAC/ACVL has been formally included as a stakeholder in this major Review being conducted by NavCanada. The Review will include all airspace from Fraser Valley right over to Vancouver Island and points north, affecting a large and diverse number of flying sites. Three member pilots will be reviewing and potentially negotiating any proposals from NavCanada that could impact our sites/CYA’s. Stay tuned.

INTERMEDIATE H3/P3 RATING PREREQUISITES: IMPORTANT CHANGES

The Intermediate rating H3 and P3 will now require the HAGAR exam as a prerequisite. The HAGAR (the Transport Canada Hang Gliding and Paragliding Air Regulations Exam) is the single requirement that Transport Canada places on our sport in order for us to be able to utilize airspace. Pilots getting their Intermediate rating from here on out will be required to have completed their HAGAR.

Pilots currently holding an Intermediate rating H3 or P3 without having their HAGAR are encouraged to complete it as soon as possible, but will of course retain their Intermediate rating.

HAGAR: IN BRIEF

Here is a quick guide to get your HAGAR, if you do not yet have it:

HPAC/ACVL SEEKING A VOLUNTEER INSURANCE PROFESSIONAL

In addition to working closely with our insurance broker over the years to acquire the best coverage, and on some occasions any coverage, he counselled the Board of Directors of the day on all things insurance.

If you are a member pilot, an insurance adjustor, investigator or other insurance professional, and are willing to volunteer your expertise, please contact the Executive Director at the Office.
