http://www.xcontest.org/world/fr/inscription/
http://www.xcontest.org/canada/fr/inscription/

Some of you already know about this online contest but I thought I'd advertise it before the spring XC season gets underway.

Among the several online contests is "XContest", which also allows countries to create their own "internal" online contests. Last year Canada created such an internal contest called XCanada.

This is an HPAC-sanctioned event, open to both PG and HG pilots throughout Canada, for flights anywhere within Canada.

How do you enter?

First off, it's free. Start by registering for the "regular" XContest: http://www.xcontest.org/world/en/registration/ . After registering for the regular XContest, go to http://www.xcontest.org/2012/canada/en/registration/ to register for the XCanada-specific contest (the button may still say 2012 but is for 2013).

Note that these are 2 separate contests so you MUST register for both contests, otherwise when you upload your igc files they may only go into the global contest and not the Canadian-specific one.

Once you are registered, all you have to do is upload your igc files when you do a flight. There is a 14-day deadline for submitting flights...anything later and the system will reject your flight. You must be an HPAC member, and flights must not violate any airspace. Registered pilots, daily scores, and additional rules can be found on the left-side menu.

Why would you enter this contest?

A couple of reasons! First off, it's a friendly way to see who's doing what for XC flights in Canada, with some lighthearted competition between pilots. For those more seriously into comps, it's also worth NTSS points as a category C comp. And finally, there's prize money from HPAC this year! The final prize amount is not yet known (as it depends on the final number of pilots entered but will probably be ~$600) but will be available to the top winners as well as random draws for all participating pilots. So even if you aren't doing big XC flights, you should still upload your flights as you may win a participant prize. Prize structure is as follows:

1st place: 15% for HG winner, 15% for PG winner
2nd place: 10% for HG 2nd place, 10% for PG 2nd place.
3rd place: 5% for HG 3rd place, 5% for PG 3rd place.

Participant prizes: 10% each to 4 random entries.

The contest is open now until Nov 2013, so as soon as XC season opens up wherever you are in Canada, make sure to upload your flights!

Additional XCanada news...

Mark Dowsett and Instinct Windsports (http://instinct.pro/) have decided to sponsor XCanada 2013 by contributing $100 to the general prize-pot (increasing it to ~$700), as well as awarding $150 to the top XC flight taking place in Ontario. This will be based on XCanada score and is available to both HG and PG (prize to be split equally).

Thank you so much Mark for your sponsorship, and hopefully this will spur on some more XC in Ontario. Other schools and clubs, you are welcome to follow suit Wink
