Visitors to Canada

You are most welcome by Canadian hang glider and paraglider pilots and to our beautiful flying sites. To gain access, Visiting Pilots must take out Temporary HPAC/ACVL membership, good for a maximum of 60 days, at a cost of $40. This is a requirement of most of our landowners, public and private, as it includes the required Third Party Liability Insurance of $5 million.

Two ways to get Temporary Membership:

IN ADVANCE of your arrival you can get the form and waiver ( doc or pdf) and mail it to the HPAC/ACVL office in Vancouver with an International Money Order
OR
ON SITE from an HPAC/ACVL instructor or member who can provide the form and waiver and collect the fee and send it to the HPAC/ACVL Office on your behalf. Your membership is valid when it has been received by an HPAC/ACVL member.

Note: This transaction cannot take place electronically as an original hard-copy waiver is required by our Insurer.

CANADIAN OPEN DISTANCE RECORDS CHALLENGE

Muller Windsports has issued a challenge to break the Canadian Open Distance Records: $500 to the HG who flies more than 350 km, and $500 to the PG who flies more than 250 km! The requisite paperwork must be filed. For all the details see /forum/viewtopic.php?t=677

HANG GLIDER AND PARAGLIDER PILOTS ALSO FLYING PARAMOTORS AND ULTRALIGHTS

The HPAC third-party liability insurance is restricted to non-motorized foot-launched hang gliding and paragliding only and does not cover any form of motorized flight. Motorized flight is an entirely different category (ultralights) under Transport Canada.
Pilots flying paramotors and ultralights are encouraged to seek out third-party liability insurance through the UltraLight Pilots Association of Canada (www.upac.ca).

MEMBERSHIP AND CERTIFICATION CHECK FOR PILOTS

As the season is about to get under way, pilots are asked to check their HPAC profile to see their membership is current, instructor certifications and endorsements for instructors and tandem pilots are current and gear and reserves are thoroughly checked pre-season, with reserve repacks where due.
