The FVXC Series will run during the month of May in the Fraser Valley, British Columbia:

May 5-6, 2007: weekend #1
May 12-13, 2007: weekend #2
May 19-20, 2007: weekend #3

May 26-27 are rain/weather days.

This will be an HPAC-sanctioned competition, Class C. It is for both hang- and paraglider pilots. It is a 6-day event; there are 2 rain/weather days in reserve.

A GPS is required. Download cables will be supplied for Garmin models; pilots using non-Garmin GPS’s must supply their own download cable.

The format will be as follows: There is no set open or close launch window, start times, or a specific task. Pilots will launch when they want, fly whatever course they desire (similar to the Chelan Classic), and then submit their GPS for scoring at the end of the day. Scoring will be by CompeGPS optimization. By this scoring system, FAI triangles and out-and-returns are scored with more points than open distance flights. The point is to fly a course that maximizes your points for the day, taking into account the weather conditions, amount of flying time available, etc. you have for your flight. Multiple flights from the designated daily launch are allowed (ie. reflights are OK); however only your 1 BEST flight per day will count for scoring.

Daily launch venue TBA the morning of each competition day, via the West Coast Soaring Club general forum. Flying sites will be in the Fraser Valley, most likely Mount Woodside or Lower Bridal Falls. All pilot meeting locations and times, daily information, download locations, etc, will be announced via the WCSC general forum.

As per HPAC-sanctioning rules, there will be a safety director and a protest committee (both TBA). Meet director will be Nicole McLearn.

Pilots are responsible for their own transportation up the mountain, and for their own retrieves. The meet/safety frequency will be 146.415 MHz, unless otherwise indicated.

Both hang- and paragliders will compete on the same days, but each will compete in their own division. At the end of the 6 days the Series champions (1st, 2nd, 3rd) for both divisions will be announced. Winners are decided based on their cumulative scores over all competition days. This competition will count for Canadian NTSS points (as a category C competition).

Entry fee is $15 CDN. $5 goes towards the World Team Fund to support the 2009 Canadian World Teams; the other $10 goes towards trophies or plaques. To register for this event, visit www.westcoastsoaringclub.com or email Nicole (Nicole.mclearn@gmail.com).
